NEW FOR 2002:

THE MCKENZIE PASS IS BACK! An epic stage over the McKenzie Pass with 7,000 feet of climbing is reintroduced after a 6 year absence.

NEW MOUNTAIN STAGE FOR MASTERS/CAT 3 RACE, AND NO USCF LICENSE REQUIRED. The Masters/Cat 3 race is an OBRA event this year, so no USCF license required, and this field has a new mountain road race around Mt. Bachelor.

Wednesday, July 10th

Pacific Power Road Race (Men Pro 1-2 only):The race starts with a long gradual ascent out of Bend into the Three Sisters Mountains and over the shoulder of Mt. Bachelor where the road descends and travels along the chain of alpine lakes known as the Cascades Lakes.The course loops around the scenic Crane Prairie Reservoir then climbs back up to Mt. Bachelor and returning in a fast 22 mile descent to finish in Bend.There are three KOMS with a total climb of 4600 feet.

Thursday July 11th


Deschutes Brewery Road Race (Men Pro 1-2, Women):
NEW FOR 2002 An epic stage of Mountain Passes and twisting switchbacks.The course descends off the west side of the Pacific Crest then turns onto the steep switchback ascent up to McKenzie Pass. After traveling through lava fields and over the Pacific Crest, the course dives along narrow twisting roads into the western tourist town of Sisters, then finishing with a surprisingly steep ascent for an uphill finish at the base of the Middle Sister.There are 2 KOMS with 7,000 feet of climbing along the 72 mile stage.

Friday July 12th

RSC Pilot Butte Time Trial (All Categories): One km uphill TT on a smooth steep switchback road to the top of Pilot Butte in the middle of Bend.

Masters/Cat 3 start at 9:00 am, then Women, and then the Men Pro 1-2. (All on km)

NEW FOR 2002: Mt. Bachelor Road Race (Masters/Cat 3 only):Starting at the Mt. Bachelor Ski Area, the course plunges downhill toward Bend for 3 miles then doubles back and climbs back up to the ski area then descends off the back side of Mt. Bachelor onto the Cascades Lakes Highway.The course travels all the way around Mt. Bachelor and finishes on the same climb back up to the Mt. Bachelor ski area.The finishing climb is 12 miles in length

Saturday July 13th

Kirby Nagelhout Construction Grand Prix (All Categories):Hilly circuit race in the Tumalo area 6 miles Northwest of Bend.Rolling hills and twisting descents on good to mediocre pavement.7 mile circuit with one feed and one KOM per lap.470 feet of climbing per lap.

Sunday July 14th

Volkswagen/Carrera Motors Old Mill District Criterium (All Categories including a Kids Race):Fast two corner criterium in the Old Mill District of Bend overlooking the Deschutes River. Excellent roads with small hill near the Start/Finish.

Prizes

Pro 1-2 Men: $15,000 cash and primes. GC will pay 20 deep. Each stage pays six deep.

Volkswagen/Carrera Motors KOM $1,400 and jersey each stage.

Lead Oregon rider $1,200 six deep and jersey each stage.

Women: $4,500 cash and primes

Volkswagen/Carrera Motors QOM $750 three deep plus jersey each stage.

Lead Oregon rider $425 three deep and jersey each stage.

Masters/Cat 3: $2000 cash + primes.

Race Leaders Jersey each stage.

General Information

This is a timed stage race, so racers must finish each stage to participate in the next stage. All stages count toward overall GC.

Pro 1-2 field is limited to USCF Pro and Cat 1 or 2 Men. The field limit is 120. Entry fee is $158 per rider or $1,100 per 8 rider team. USCF license required.

Women's field is open to all USCF Pro and Cat. 1-3 Women, with 100 rider limit. Entry fee is $85 per rider. USCF license required.

NEW FOR 2002: The Masters/Cat 3 race is an OBRA (Oregon Bicycle Racing Association) event, so no USCF license is required. Oregon racers must have an OBRA license. All out-of-state riders will receive a free OBRA license for this event. The Masters/Cat 3 race is open to riders of any age categorized as USCF or OBRA Cat 3, and USCF or OBRA Cat 2 riders 35 or older. Entry fee is $75 per rider.


Registration and Packet Pick-up

All racers must pre-register on or before July 3rd (registration must be postmarked June 28) or there will be a $10 late registration fee. To pre-register send standard USCF entry/release form to: Cascade Cycling Classic, 1293 NW Wall St., Suite #1336, Bend, Oregon 97701. Master/Cat 3 riders may also use the standard OBRA release form.


Race registration and Packet Pick-up will be at the Athletic Club of Bend, 61615 Mt. Bachelor Drive (just off Century Drive on the way to Mt. Bachelor) as follows:
**There will be no race day registration.

Host Housing

Host housing is available to Pro 1-2 Men and Women. You must submit your request for host housing before June 30th. All host housing requests must be in writing or via e-mail. There is a one time fee of $35 per team of three or more or a fee of $15 for individuals. This fee pays our host housing coordinator who works extremely hard to find everyone a great place to stay.Riders staying in host housing will be required to call their host before they arrive. Any riders who "no-show" on their host housing without contacting their host will not be eligible for host housing ever again.
