Bike Racing at PIR Starts Up For The Summer!

Wish you could ever ride your bike on a car racetrack? Well, now you can! The Lakeside Bicycles Monday Night Masters and Women race series starts another exciting year of racing in May. The race series is in its 17th year of running at Portland International raceway, and this year's summer series is looking to be great! Jim Anderson, Race Organizer says "With 2003's success, we are excited to keep that momentum going and make the race series the place to learn bicycle racing."

Racing is for Masters 30+ and open to all Women. Racers of all ability and fitness level are welcome to attend. Masters 30+ will be divided by category (fitness/experience levels). Women's race is for all ages, and racing/experience level) New Addition - Novice Masters for anyone aged (30+, 5 or less races, Cat. 5). This group will have experienced "ride-along" mentors from the Lakeside Bicycles/Fred Meyer Cycling Team. If you bike commute to the race and get $1.00 off entry fee, plus new this year: Car-pool (with 1 or more other racer(s)) or take the new Tri-Met Interstate Max Line to the race and receive $1.00 off entry fee. For every racer participating in this program, $1.00 is donated to the Bicycle Transportation Alliance. Come out and try bike racing in a friendly, safe, and closed to traffic racecourse.

Where:
Portland International Raceway. From I-5 take exit #306B west.

When:
May 3, 10, 17, 24, 31; June 7, 14, 21, 28; July 5, 12, 26; August 2, 9, 16, 23, 30

Registration:
Opens at 5pm. OBRA licenses available (single-day $5 or annual $15). Registration located at start/finish area on the track
in the middle of the main grand stands.

Start Times:
Novice Masters: 6:15, Women: 6:30, Masters Groups: 6:45

Course/Distances:
Distances vary each week depending on daylight/field sizes/weather, and will be announced at start/registration. Course is flat, wide, 1.9-mile loop, closed to traffic with excellent pavement. Race distances average from 20–30 miles (women's race), 30–55 miles (master's cat. 1/2/3/4), 10–15 miles (novice masters/cat. 5)

Categories: New Addition – Never tried bicycle racing before? This is the place to start. Novice Masters category for anyone aged 30+ (that has raced 5 or fewer races, Category 5). This group will have experienced "ride-along" mentors from the Lakeside Bicycles/Fred Meyer Cycling Team.

All Masters (30+) Categories (Category 1–4)

All Women – all abilities, ages and categories welcomed and encouraged! The seasoned women racers of Team Sorella Forte will be available for questions, mentoring and guidance for new or beginning women racers.

May – August – Masters 50+

May and June – Masters 30+ – Cat 1/2/3s, Cat 4

July and August – Masters 30+ – Cat 1/2/3s, Cat 3/4s

Additional Information:
Kids fun event starts at 7pm (July/Aug), for ages 13 and under. Bring helmet and bike, and be ready to have fun - everyone
gets a ribbon.

Helmets required, OBRA racing rules apply, and no aero bars allowed.

Prizes:
Series prizes awarded at end of each month (month=series). Thanks to Lakeside Bicycles for great prizes and gift certificates (non-transferable with expiration date). There are also nightly prizes (GC and Cash!) that will be announced by email or at race site. These prizes will need to be picked up each night.

$12.00, $5.00 jr. women
