A little more patch work (plus some well placed duct tape) smoothed the track a little more and allowed many riders to pursue faster times than last year
Sam Taylor, QualMed/Saturn was able to win the Jr Class for the second week in a row, Catlin Gibbs, Compucom, showed his stuff as the only 2k rider, Darell Provencher, RCW, took the Master's category and Nina Strika, Bike Gallery/Sequent, won her first pursuit since taking the track record last year. In the 4k event Brian Abers and I (Jamie Mikami) switched places from our kilo results last week with my first win of the season.

The Alpenrose Velodrome opened its gates to the 1997 season with the new transitions in place, but a little rough on the bottom, and the new drainage system in place. This left 27 riders to takle a roughed up lower section of the track, while enjoying the fact that the upper half of the track could now safely be riden at speed. Still the bridge and warmup track to build, along with some improvements to the lower part of the transitions and tilling of the infield.
Brian Abers, River City/Cyclisme, steps up to take the opening kilo night with Sam Taylor, QualMed/Saturn, taking the honors for both Cat 4 and Juniors. In the 500m event, Teran Martin, Compucom, took the Junior title with Lynn Hughes, Bike Gallery/Sequent, winning the Womens 500m.
