(Note 5/23/96: New track record - 59.63 seconds for three laps in a new event at Alpenrose, the team of Robert Burney, Chris Shockley and Barton Rippe edged out a team from Team Oregon to win the Olympic sprint event in just over 59 seconds. In the conclusion of the Senior 1/2/3 pursuit Tom James was able to top Chauncey Curl's time from last week to take top honors and lead a 1st through 4th sweep, and 6 of the top 10 for the QualMed team. Also on the slate for tonight was the 200 meter qualifiers for next weeks sprint night. However with 3 of QualMed's top men's sprinters and all 3 women in San Jose for the Regional Cup, the team only managed a 3rd - Jamie Mikami 13:09, 4th - Barton Rippe 13:10, and 7th Robert Burney in the Senior Men's field.)

Look for the conclusion of the event next Thursday as Tom James will try to top Chauncey and make it a 1-2-3 sweep, just as we had on kilo night.)

(Update 5/10/96: QualMed/Saturn continues to dominate the weekly series races with a clean sweep of the opening night on the track, kilo night. QualMed riders scored: 1st - Abe Ali Khalisi 1m 15.12s, 2nd - David Godfrey 1:15.72, 3rd - Jamie Mikami 1:16.08, 5th - Barton Rippe 1:16.56, and 6th - Chauncey Curl 1:16.87. For the QualMed Women, who did 500 meters, there was a similar result: 1st - Norenne Valente 42.54s, 2nd - Darien Harwood 45.27. The team appears to be on a roll as the State Championships approach (June) and many of our riders are back from some mid season road trips.)
